It Works! Our SK1215 on an old Anderson door

We received the following letter from Glenn of Walnut Creek, California. He used our SK1215 handle set to get the look he wanted on his existing Anderson/EMCO door. It took a little creative thinking, but we love this DIY attitude.

Thanks for letting us know, Glenn!

I needed to replace the old and worn brass handle set on my Anderson/EMCO door. I contacted Anderson, but the only replacement they had for this older model was another brass one and we wanted to change to Satin Nickel. Sadly, they no longer made that handle and the only color still available was brass.

So, I bought the above handle as it appeared to line-up well with the holes in my door and the overall footprint of the mechanisms. In fact, the top half of the unit did line-up well with the holes and the component parts also matched the outline of the old handle perfectly. In fact, the latching mechanism lined-up well with the old one so that it engages OK when the door is closed. The only part that did not match was the lower inside portion that contains the deadbolt style locking mechanism. Here, the holes were different, as was the locking method itself.

I didn’t care if my storm door locked, so I was able make the unit work. I did this by using the top screw hole that aligned perfectly with my old lock as the screw attaches to the front mechanism from the back. The difference is with the bottom hole. The lower hole on the new lock needs to come from the front side, requiring a nut on the back side. This is why the locking mechanism won’t work as it attaches in a completely different way than the old one.

So, all I did was get a 3″” long 6/32 screw that I inserted through the front hole, then through the door and then out of the hole in the mechanism in the back. I secured that screw with a stainless steel acorn nut and the job was done and looking beautiful. Other than the deadbolt not functioning, it looks great, the handle opens and closes as it should and the little lady is all smiles!

P.S.
